According to Aristotle, there are three forms of activity, although in the modern world we tend to give importance only to two. The first is theoretical activity, whose ultimate goal is truth. The second is practical activity, Praxis, which aims at action. This has its end in itself:
But there is a third one: poietic activity. The philosopher Martin Heidegger describes poiesis as a “pro-ducing”, that is, a “leading out”, in the sense of “bringing to light, realizing”.
Poietic activity has its end outside of itself.
