Poiesis

Example of poiesis: the production of a small table by a carpenter. By stating that poiesis is an activity that does not have its end in itself, Aristotle means that the acts performed by the carpenter to produce the table (namely, design, choice of wood, assembly, finishing, etc.) are all oriented toward a goal that lies beyond the acts themselves. … The creation of the table is indeed a way of making something manifest. Through production, the produced thing appears and becomes present. However, even though it owes its appearance to the activity of producing, the produced thing appears only when the activity of producing has ceased.
