(Translation: English version of Italiano version)

The rhetorical situation is a model for analyzing and composing a text that allows for evaluating different perspectives. These are:

  1. Writer
  2. Audience
  3. Subject

These 3 elements should be visualized as sets, whose intersections give rise to other elements that in turn form the rhetorical situation:

  • Writer + Subject = Exigence. Why does the author write that text?
  • Writer + Audience = Objective. What does the author want for the audience? Why should the reader read it?
  • Audience + Subject = Genre. How is the text presented? Delayed Thesis Essay? Or Mini Essay?

==At the center of the intersection of these 3 elements is the Text.==

It is particularly useful in combination with the entimema. These different sets and subsets can represent the starting material for composing both the thesis of a text and its outline.
